Focus Leadership

While the Focus Leadership Institute provides a total of 15-16 hours of recommended academic credit for the fall and spring semesters and six to eight possible hours for the summer semester, it is not an independently accredited program.

Students can gain academic
credit for coursework at FLI in three ways:

1. Institutional Study Abroad/Semester Away Policy

Undergraduates currently studying at a college or university are first governed by their home institution’s policies concerning participation in study abroad or semester away programs for credit. Most schools have an established process that addresses the granting of credit for studies at semester-away programs like FLI.

Students are encouraged to make contact with FLI staff to assist them with this process. There are also official FLI liaisons on many Christian campuses who can help answer academic credit-related questions. FLI staff can assist students in connecting with these liaisons.

2. Colorado Christian University

Focus Leadership Institute is privileged to partner with Colorado Christian University (CCU). Colorado Christian University has reviewed the courses, staffing, and faculty of the Focus Leadership Institute, has accepted them as its own and has subjected them to review by its accrediting body, the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

In addition, CCU has agreed to provide documentation of grades and credit for students who complete FLI’s coursework concurrent with temporary or permanent enrollment at CCU. Through this partnership students are offered opportunity to register as special students at Colorado Christian University. Students may contact FLI staff for more information on this process.

3. Direct Credit

Some institutions hold a historic partnership with FLI which allows them to accept academic credit directly from FLI. In these instances, students remain enrolled at their home institutions and receive credit for their FLI courses as if they were being given on their own campuses. These are unique arrangements, and therefore it is important for students to communicate with their schools and FLI staff to confirm if such an arrangement exists.

FLI also welcomes the applications of recent graduates, many of whom opt to complete the program for no academic credit.

FLI has no jurisdiction over the type of credit granted by sending institutions for its courses (i.e. elective credit versus credit toward a specific course or degree requirement).
